Site Location

The firm's site location practice starts with the determination of the number and location of stocking points and the mission of each. Mission definition involves the specification of the product lines to be stocked and the modes to be used to ship to the assigned service area for each facility. Mapping software is used in these studies to study population and sales demographics. In other studies we have identified and reviewed candidate sites against a custom-prepared list of decision factors and recommended the best alternative sites. Typical projects in this area include:
  • Analysis of repositioning a plant or distribution center within its current region considering the following factors:
    Land availability
    Local tax environment
    Proximity to highways
    Proximity to major customers
    Labor availability, quality and costs
    Environmental issues
    Carrier availability
    Rail access/airport access
    Proximity to vendors/raw materials
  • Distribution strategy studies that consider the entire network from a cost and service point of view. These studies use our ASSIGN distribution model and databases.
